My name is William Martin and I have been marketing both online and offline since 2005.
I could tell you the classic ‘rags to riches’ back story.
You know the one…
“Back in 2005, I lost my job, then my girlfriend, then my home. I was sleeping in a cardboard box, eating a handful of cold gravel a day and I didn’t think life could get any worse. Until my dog ‘Lucky’ was hit by lightning. I was on the point of despair when a mysterious stranger tripped over me in the street and a small crumpled piece of paper fell out of his pocket into my lap. On it was the secret to massive online success. Now I make millions by spending 10 minutes every other Thursday just pressing three keys on my keyboard.”
But that would be completely untrue.
Back in 2005, I actually had a pretty well-paid job. But I was putting in ridiculous hours and I wasn’t enjoying life.
It’s a cliche, but I was living to work, rather than working to live.
And I finally had a revelation… all my hard work… all my blood, sweat and tears… were being expended to help make someone else rich.
Why not work for myself and try to make me rich instead?
So, with not a little trepidation, I threw in the good salary, the company car, the private health insurance, the 6 weeks paid holiday a year… and struck out on my own.
I didn’t enjoy immediate success, but I stuck at it.
I had to, because I had a limited amount of money to keep me afloat and there was no way I was going back to being a ‘wage slave’.
(I think so many people fail to make money for themselves because they have a job. They may want to succeed but they don’t have to succeed. So there is a danger that it all becomes more of a ‘hobby’ than a real career move. I am not suggesting that you follow me and throw in your job… but it certainly concentrates the mind!)
Long story short, I got perilously close to stony broke a couple of times but I replaced my previous ‘day job’ income within around 18 months.
I don’t consider myself to be ‘rich’ or any type of ‘guru’ (don’t you just hate that word?) but I never set out to be.
To me, real ‘wealth’ is having the freedom to live life on your terms.
In that regard, I am a very wealthy person.
And I am passionate about passing some of that wealth onto other people.
Way back when I started this crazy adventure, I struggled… a lot.
I suffered from the dreaded ‘shiny object’ syndrome, flitting from one ‘Latest, Greatest Thing’ to the next and never making any real progress.
The turning point for me was realising that the sure route to success in any venture is to find someone who is already successful at what you want to do and copy them.
Suddenly, I had clarity and, instead of running around like a headless chicken, I started to make real progress.
One of the mentors I found back then went above and beyond to help me.
When I asked him why, he said that one of the secrets of success is to always give something back.
In other words, the more you help other people, the more you will help yourself.
It’s like ‘karma’.
So I have always tried to genuinely help others who are struggling to find success online.
For me, there is little more rewarding in life than taking people and, in some small way, making them ‘better’ than they were before they found you.
And that is my aim with this blog.
I hope you enjoy it and get some small benefit from it.
My very best regards
